As part of the activities proposed by the COMMON Project, an online meeting was held this morning by CIHEAMBari, with the stakeholders of the Salento pilot area, which was attended by representatives of local administrations, MPAs, fishing associations, associations of bathing establishments and universities. The aim of the event was to identify priorities and possible joint actions aimed at mitigating the problem of waste, consisting mainly of plastics at sea and on the coast.
During his speech, the Director Maurizio Raeli confirmed the great interest of CIHEAMBari in the themes of “blue growth” and the sustainable development of coastal communities and territories that the Institute of Bari pursues, in line with objective 14 of the ‘Agenda 2030 of the United Nations. He also underlined the importance of synergistic partnership actions, generated and implemented thanks to Territorial Cooperation projects, for an effective intervention on the impacts caused by the serious problem of microplastics in the sea.
