The ENI CBC Med-funded COMMON project and Plastic Busters CAP, with the support of the Union for the Mediterranean, will hold an international workshop in Manfredonia titled “MONITORING MARINE LITTER IN ENVIRONMENT AND BIODIVERSITY” from the 12th to the 14th of July 2022.
This two-day training aims to stimulate the exchange of ideas and experiences in regard to marine litter monitoring and improve the knowledge and assessment of the impact of marine litter on Marine and Coastal Protected Areas and endangered species.
On the first day, participants will immerse themselves in field and laboratory activities with the goal of showcasing the project’s approach to monitoring and assessing the presence and effects of macro and microlitter. The day will end with the screening of the awareness-raising PLASTIC BUSTERS MPAs Documentary.
On the second day, in the early morning, there will be a beach litter monitoring methodology demonstration. The laboratory will continue in the afternoon, focusing on the analysis of samples collected on the first day.
Before the certificate ceremony, Marianna Marangi of the University of Foggia will talk about “What the sea turtle pathogens tell us? Experiences from the Sea Turtle Rescue Centers”.
UNISI and Union for the Mediterranean will conclude the workshop with their speeches.
